Itami Sky Park is a vast park located on the west side of Osaka International Airport (Itami Airport). The entire park covers an area of 9 hectares and is close to the runway, allowing visitors to watch planes take off and land in a powerful way.
Parks that allow visitors to see airplanes up close in this way are rare in Japan. As a result, families and aviation enthusiasts visit the park for spotting and filming.
The park has various areas including a lawn area, an observation deck, aviation-related exhibits, playground equipment, and a river.
During the day, the park is crowded with families with children, and at night it is a famous date spot for couples who enjoy watching airplanes take off, leaving behind a beautiful trail of lights.
From the Sky Park’s Big Sky Hill, visitors can watch planes take off from the runway with great intensity. Of all the airports in Japan, Sky Park is the only park where you can see airplanes so closely. For this reason, many photographers visit the park.
In addition, the Cube Adventure, a giant three-dimensional maze made of nets located on the Adventure Hill, is very popular among children! In addition, there are roller slides and jungle gyms that utilize the slopes, so there is never a dull moment.
In spring, 14,000 azaleas of four varieties bloom on Azalea Hill.
There are several areas in the park, especially at the “North Entrance” there is a building called “Park Center” where artifacts from the Iwaya Ruins, historical materials of the Kozu area, air traffic control radar and YS-11 propellers are displayed.
At the Central Entrance, there is a reconstructed Yayoi Period irrigation facility based on artifacts excavated at the Iwaya Site, and a plasma display showing the arrival and departure times of Osaka International Airport’s airplanes.
The South Entrance is located beyond the Iwaya Tunnel, adjacent to Skyland Harada, and provides an entrance to the “Hilltop Parking Lot,” where visitors can watch planes take off and land from close quarters while riding in their cars.
